About responsibility, impact and drive.
I was standing at the airport and all I could think of was what will happen the next few days. In Germany I am a full time freelance software engineer and work on my own concept just in the free time I can grab outside this full time job. But the next few days it will be different. Because my brother and I are travelling back home for e certain reason. This time it is not primarly family like it was the last years ago. This time it will be about our initiative. About moving forward in the direction of the big picture. Focused and without distraction from outside.
There was a specific point last year my brother and I decided to set a new goal for ourselves. We had worked very hard for the last few years to get to a point where we can live our life based on our own rules. A place where we could do whatever we like, travel wherever we desired and most importantly; we could choose who we want to be. A quote we bas our philosophy on come from the esteemed Assassins Creed game. This is where Federico and Ezio Auditore are standing on a roof and having a conversation
Federico: It is a good life we lead, brother.
Ezio: The best. May it never change.
Federico: And may it never change us.
What we realized is that with all this opportunities we had (which we are so thankful for!) a significant responsibility comes along. A responsibility of giving back.
As a means of honouring our roots, we started the `KosovoCircle` with the sole aim of inspiring the Albanian diaspora. We wanted to provide a foundation for the youth to start projects that will allow Kosovo to flourish, both socially and economically. This is our forum where we discuss and sketch out ideas for a better Kosovo. This is one pier to the bridge we seek to build.
However, it is not only the Kosovans living outside of the country that need to take action but ultimately Kosovo itself.
The second pier which will build this bridge is a need for an ingress. The driving force of this project is an eagerness for change and empowerment, thus we developed another initiative related to KosovoCircle called KosovoIngress.
KosovoIngress is a plattform we wish to create in Kosovo itself where people can sign up to be a part of the community we wish to estblish. They will be able to connect with members of the KosovoCircle and collaborate with them on different projects. This will allow the people of Kosovo to gain access to more job opportunities, to co-shape the initiative, to learn, to grow and to improve day by day.
Yet, to see this visions through, we must first establish the foundation for this much needed international collaboration.
Let us come back to our so called `workation`. My brother and I decided to do buy two tickets to Kosovo. We understoodvthat we had zeal and a desire to see this project through. But success cannot be achieved wirhout structure. So, we came up with a business idea in Kosovo called MakerMinds LLC.
“Everything you do is based on the choices you make” -Wayne Dyer
Even we do not know every legal aspect in Kosovo and even we have not created a fifty page business plan, we flew over and just started this adventure trusting each other and knowing that makers gonna make. So we arrived in Kosovo but currently just ging outside to have some food. The rest of the time we locked us up in our “office” and worked from day to night on our concepts.
“He who would do some great thing in this short life, must apply himself to the work with such a concentration of his forces as to the idle spectators, who live only amuse themselves, looks like insanity.” – John Foster
Although we have not yet scrutinised every legal aspect nor have we come up with a final business draft, we do know that we began this adventure trusting each other with the vision of success in mind.
When we arrived in Kosovo, we just went to stock up on food and the rest of the time we spent locked in our office working day and night.
A lot of blood, sweat and tears went down during this hours. Our focus was split between marketing strategies which could allow the initiative to be reached by individuals, and building up website concepts which gave people an idea of how our approaches work.
But as both of us are software engineers we are also working on different applications supporting the organization of this complex field we have chosen. Brainstorming, finding solutions, discarding concepts, rethinking, changing direction, setting up again and moving forward.
The reason we do what we do and the reason we brought this vision to life was because we believed in change. We knew that by doing things that are greater than ourselves we can make a difference. This is where purpose is defined. This is where the drive comes from.
I want to finish this article with one last quote which hits the nail on the head:
“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don´t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
